Terrence Shannon Jr.’s explosive scoring is burst Timberwolves need

After notching three points in seven minutes two days ago, Terrence Shannon Jr. looks at more minutes tonight

Saturday night’s contest between the Timberwolves and Nuggets yielded one of the most improbable outcomes imaginable.

Led by Ayo Dosunmu’s 43 point explosion, the Wolves routed Denver, handily defeating the Joker and co. (112-96). Dosunmu’s performance came as a welcome surprise to Minnesota, but at an incredible cost. In the first quarter, starting shooting guard Donte Divencenzo tore his right achilles, rendering him out indefinitely. Not long after, franchise cornerstone Anthony Edwards hyper-extended his knee, the three time all-star will miss four to five weeks.

Both devastating blows mark an opportunity for second year shooting guard Terrence Shannon Jr. who’s averaging 21.3 points in his last four games. With all their depth at shooting guard being depleted, head coach Chris Finch should give the 25 year old Illinois product a nod tonight.

“We need everything he does, from running the floor, getting downhill, playing with force,” the Timberwolves coach said.

If Finch opts for an expansion of TJ’s role, I see Shannon Jr. making an immediate and profound impact.
